Transit and Traffic Study

As part of analyzing how a residential development in Garfield New Jersey would impact the traffic operations of the surrounding roadway network, Stonefield was tasked with understanding the unique vehicle and pedestrian characteristics of an offset intersection with a nearby train station and bus stop. Through drone observations, Stonefield was able to determine the queues at all approaches of the intersection clear with each cycle with a sufficient number of gaps in traffic to allow residents of the development to enter and exit the site. Further, pedestrian activity was observed to be concentrated during transit arrivals and departures and did not significantly impact the vehicular operations of the intersection. The preparation and efforts put into this analysis assisted the project team during testimony and ultimately lead to the project gaining the approval of Garfield’s Planning Board. The project is part of Garfield’s ongoing effort to create a transit oriented area around the train station that encourages walking and other alternate modes of transportation.
