Floodplain Management

While at initial glance it may be mistaken as a stormwater management feature, this recently constructed floodplain provides the necessary floodwater volume compensation for the development at the foot of the photo. As development in the region intensifies, floodplain management is becoming more critical to Townships such as Fairfield in New Jersey which flood often due to landcover conversation on a large scale from farmland to commercial lots. In addition to the new floodplain, pervious pavement and an infiltration basin were installed to retain as much runoff on site as possible to decrease the impacts to downstream properties.
