Outside the box

Thinking outside the box is key. The Federal ADA regulations create a specific set of guidelines for pedestrian entry to publicly accessed commercial facilities. When reviewing options to bring a historic Bank of America branch into compliance, a unique solution was presented. A new entrance proposed four feet higher than the existing entrance was recommended in order to bypass the internal stairway barrier. The result provided a barrier free access point with an exterior ramp allowing all customers to independently enter.
